The Supreme Court of Appeal has acquitted Hlalanathi Ngwadla of murder, overturning a life sentence and highlighting the importance of fair trial standards.

After a second successful appeal against his conviction, a Stilfontein, North West, man is a free man after being acquitted of murder in the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).

Hlalanathi Ngwadla, alongside his now-deceased brother, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Stilfontein Regional Court.

After the conviction and sentence, Ngwadla successfully appealed against his conviction and sentence to the North West Division of the High Court, Mahikeng, where his sentence was discounted to 18 years for the murder which occurred on November 23, 2014.

At the SCA, Ngwadla appealed only his conviction.
