Greek authorities have seized 25 unregistered pistols near the northern city of Komotini in what investigators describe as the latest case in an ongoing flow of weapons from Turkey through the Evros border region, according to police documents and officials involved in the investigation.

The weapons were discovered Saturday evening after officers from Greece’s Organized Crime Directorate, known informally as the “Greek FBI,” stopped a Nissan Almera on a provincial road near Komotini following a tip received earlier that day in Thessaloniki.

Police said the driver, a 29-year-old Greek man, was arrested after officers found a black travel bag in the vehicle’s trunk containing 25 pistols wrapped in nylon packaging intended to protect them from moisture and rust. The weapons reportedly carried no brand markings or serial numbers.

Authorities described the firearms as “ghost guns” and said they resembled Glock-style pistols. Official documents in the case noted similarities to a previous seizure of 147 pistols in October 2025, including the bags used and the method of packaging.

Investigators believe the weapons trafficked through the Evros region are intended for members of Turkish organized crime groups operating in Greece and Western Europe, particularly Spain. Police documents referenced the “Daltons” and “Baygaralar” gangs, which authorities associate with homicides and drug trafficking.
