SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION, Philippines — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region I (BFAR-1) called on the public and all concerned stakeholders to remain vigilant and strictly comply with shellfish advisories amid the continuing threat of red tide contamination.
“This is to prevent health risks associated with red tide toxins,” BFAR said as it issued Shellfish Bulletin No. 12 on Monday, warning that the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan remain positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP), commonly known as red tide toxin.
“All types of shellfish and alamang gathered from these coastal areas are not safe for human consumption,” the agency said.
