The Ashok Nagar police have arrested a 35-year-old policeman for sexually harassing a minor boy on Thursday. A senior official of the City police said P. Velappan, a head constable of the Vadapalani police station, along with another person, had gone to his friend’s house in Kodambakkam, on Wednesday night and were consuming liquor.Velappan, being heavily drunk, went to the bedroom of the house, where he found a 15-year-old boy sleeping. The minor boy had accompanied his parents from Nagercoil for a tour to the nearby place was left to stay in his uncle’s house. Seeing the boy being alone, the police head constable attempted to sexually harass the boy.The boy after fighting off the inebriated police official ran out and explained it to a patrol police official on duty. Based on this the Ashok Nagar police after arrested Velappan. A police official said the head constable having been arrested under the POCSO Act, steps are being taken to remove the head constable from the police service.ChildLine operates a toll-free helpline for children in distress -1098.
