A deadly fire broke out at the Zenith Hotel in the Sunny Beach resort on Thursday afternoon, triggering a large emergency response and the evacuation of guests and staff from the building.
According to the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection in Burgas, the signal for the blaze was received at around 4:52 p.m. Firefighters initially dispatched one crew to the scene, but the scale of the incident later required two additional teams to join the operation.
A 47-year-old worker died in the fire, according to information reported by Nova TV. Witness accounts from hotel employees indicate that three welders had been working inside the building when sparks from their activity ignited one of the hotel rooms.
The flames reportedly spread rapidly. Two of the workers managed to escape by jumping from a balcony on one of the lower floors. The third worker attempted to flee through the smoke-filled area but inhaled a large amount of smoke and collapsed before reaching safety.
Hotel management confirmed that all guests and employees were evacuated from the building as firefighters battled the blaze. Police patrols and emergency medical teams were also dispatched to the scene.
