According to Sowore, the measure is designed to ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerian tenants by aligning rental payments with the monthly or short‑term income flow of ordinary workers.

The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Omoyele Sowore, has announced a sweeping policy proposal aimed at reforming Nigeria’s housing sector.

Sowore, who emerged as the AAC consensus candidate during the party’s national primary in Abuja, pledged to abolish the widespread practice of landlords demanding upfront yearly rent from tenants.

In a bold declaration posted on social media, the human rights activist said his first action as president would be to sign an Executive Order prohibiting property owners from collecting more than three months’ rent at a time.

According to Sowore, the measure is designed to ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerian tenants by aligning rental payments with the monthly or short‑term income flow of ordinary workers.
