Holy Ghost Coptic Church Spiritual Leader Father John Pesa addresses the press at his church in Kisumu [Collins Oduor, Standard]
Controversial Kisumu-based religious leader and founder of the Holy Ghost Coptic Church, Father John Juma Pesa, has died.
Pesa's death was confirmed by multiple sources, with the family expected to make a formal announcement following a meeting.
His body was later moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary for preservation, awaiting postmortem.
Pesa, who was based in Mambo Leo, is widely recognised for founding the Holy Ghost Coptic Church of Africa after reportedly breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church.
