Toronto is rolling out its heat relief strategy to help residents stay cool and safe this summer after a record-breaking 29 days of heat warnings last year — almost twice as many as the year before.
The strategy, announced by the city this week as it prepares to host multiple FIFA World Cup games next month, will run until Sept. 30. It co-ordinates city services and outreach programs with a special focus on residents who are most at risk from extreme heat, including seniors, young children, people with health conditions and the homeless.
