Ambulances operated by EMRI Green Health Services (GHS) under the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, popularly known as 108 ambulances, clocked an average response time of 7.53 minutes in handling emergencies related to road traffic accidents (RTA) in Coimbatore district in the last financial year. It was a little over 8 minutes in the previous fiscal.The average response time of all types of emergencies, including RTAs, was 8.38 minutes across the district and less than 7 minutes within the city.Ganesh G., Programme Manager of EMRI GHS for Coimbatore and the Nilgiris, said the 10.1-km G.D. Naidu flyover, which was inaugurated on October 9, 2025, eased the traffic on the arterial Avinashi Road, improving quicker transport on persons in need of immediate medical attention.He felt the overall response time will improve after the completion of the flyover at Saibaba Colony. The traffic congestion at this area was affecting swift transport of patients from places like Periyanaickenpalayam and Kavundampalayam to the city.According to him, 108 ambulances attended more number of RTA emergencies from hill regions of the district such as Valparai, Kotagiri Road and Coonoor Road (upto Burliar) from March.EMRI GHS operates a total of 66 ambulances in Coimbatore – 13 advanced life support vehicles, two neonatal life support vehicles, 47 basic life support vehicles and four first responders (two-wheeler ambulance).V. Sumathi, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, presented certificates and medals to best performing pilots of 108 ambulances in Coimbatore district on the occasion of Ambulance Pilot Day.
