The 108 Emergency Ambulance Service handled a total of 25,306 emergency cases across Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur in April 2026. Road traffic accidents accounted for over 30% of the total emergency calls.Data released by the 108 Emergency Ambulance Service showed that Chennai recorded 7,614 cases, Tiruvallur handled 7,331 cases, while Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram recorded 6,703 and 3,388 cases respectively.Of the total cases handled, there were 7,679 road traffic accident cases. The service also attended to 1,852 pregnancy-related emergencies and 372 paediatric cases. Cardiac, abdomen, and respiratory ailments were among the other major categories of emergencies handled by the service.The 108 service provides 24x7 free emergency medical transport and pre-hospital care. To reduce fatalities, ambulances have been strategically deployed along high-risk highway stretches to ensure care within the ‘Golden Hour’, the critical first hour after an accident, a press release said.The public can call “108” for any medical emergency.
