The spirit of celebration, gratitude and achievement filled the air as RP Moodley School for Learners with Disabilities commemorated its 40th anniversary, bringing together learners, educators, alumni, parents, donors and community leaders to honour four decades of service and transformation.
The milestone celebration, held recently at the school in Clare Estate, reflected on the institution’s journey since opening in 1986 as the Clare Estate School for the Physically Disabled. Guests paid tribute to the visionaries, educators and community members whose dedication created a nurturing environment where children with disabilities could access quality education, therapy and support.
Today, the school serves 181 learners from communities including Overport, Asherville, Reservoir Hills, Newlands, Clermont and central Durban, many from disadvantaged socio‑economic backgrounds. Through specialised education programmes and a holistic support system, the school continues to empower learners living with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities.
