Civil society activists and labour leaders have called for the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, in a joint statement issued on Children’s Day and signed by Nigerian rapper and songwriter Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz and others.
The statement said 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It added that the victims were taken from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esinele, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele, while noting that one teacher, Mr Oyedokun Olugbade, was beheaded a few days before the statement.
It also referenced an incident in Borno State, stating: “On May 15, 2026, suspected Boko Haram militants attacked the Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting 42 pupils and children from the area.”
