She must serve a minimum of 19 years before she is eligible for parole.‌Baby Thea suffered a series of devastating injuries including three skull fractures, brain damage and bleeding behind the eyes after a violent outburst by Blain at her flat in Greenock, Inverclyde, on July 14, 2023.‌The infant's injuries were consistent with her being violently shaken and repeatedly slammed against a hard floor, wall or furniture.‌But, in a sick cover-up bid, Blain said she had woken up from a nap to find her daughter stricken on the floor - and went on to claim another child also in the flat had "done" whatever happened to Thea. The lies were branded "nonsense" by prosecutors and a pathologist also effectively ruled out Thea could have been fatally hurt by being dropped by this youngster.Jurors found her guilty last month and the judge Lord Scott told her at the time: "I will be passing a life sentence. I do want more information about you before deciding the length of the punishment part (minimum time Blain will spend in jail). In the meantime, you will be remanded in custody."Article continues belowBlain - who had been on bail - cried hysterically as she was led handcuffed to the cells. Thea was described during the trial as "perfect" when she was born on June 25, 2023.Following the conviction, a statement from Police Scotland read: "On 14 July, 2023, police received a report of a baby having taken unwell at a property in Greenock. The baby was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, where she died. Following an investigation, Blain was arrested before appearing at court charged with her murder."Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young also stated: "This is a tragic case in which a baby has lost her life and Nicole Blain will now have to face the consequences of her actions. I would like to thank all the officers involved, as well as our partner agencies, for their work during this investigation."Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.‌CrimeMurderBreaking News
