The toddler sustained 21 broken bones before her collapse at their Thornaby, Teesside, home, with a post-mortem revealing a fractured skull, brain damage, and signs of sexual assault. Walker delayed calling emergency services, instead Googling 'why would my toddler be bleeding' and contacting her stepfather before finally alerting 999, despite paramedics arriving within a minute to find Isabelle not breathing and covered in bruises. Simpson was unanimously convicted of murder and sexual assault, while Walker was convicted of murder by a majority verdict and cleared of sexual assault, with both also found guilty of child cruelty. Concerns about Isabelle's welfare were raised previously, including 11 days before her death when she was discharged from hospital with a broken leg despite staff misgivings and Walker's aggressive behaviour towards medics.
