The DA says a criminal case against former minister Sisisi Tolashe must proceed, warning accountability could fall away if she resigns from Parliament amid ongoing allegations and political pressure.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says a criminal investigation against former Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe must proceed, arguing that accountability cannot fall away if she resigns as a Member of Parliament.

DA Member of Parliament (MP) Nazley Sharif said the party maintains that both parliamentary and criminal processes should continue despite mounting political pressure for Tolashe to step down from Parliament.

“It is important to note that if Minister Tolashe resigns as an MP, Parliamentary ethics processes would likely fall away because Parliament no longer has jurisdiction over non-members, and perhaps this is another reason why they’re forcing her to resign.

''However, the criminal charges we have laid will continue, and accountability cannot simply disappear because she resigns,'' said Sharif in an interview on SABC.
