The PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said Thursday the shooting incident at the Senate and the escape of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa are “related.”“So, let me just say na, you know, two incidents po ‘yan. They are related,” CIDG chief Police Major General Robert Morico II said at a press conference.“But the investigation is already with the Department of Justice. I do not want to preempt yung [the] findings po ng [of the] Department of Justice (DOJ),” he added.Morico said a backup pickup vehicle had allegedly been waiting outside the Senate premises after Dela Rosa and his companions left the building.Around six individuals, including Senator Robin Padilla, are being investigated in connection with a possible obstruction of justice complaint over the incident.Morico declined to conclude whether the Senate shooting incident was staged or deliberately used as a “supervening event” to justify Dela Rosa’s exit from the Senate.ICC arrest warrantThe International Criminal Court (ICC) earlier confirmed that the tribunal has issued an arrest warrant for Dela Rosa in connection with the killings under the war on drugs.While the Senate building was on lockdown and Dela Rosa was under the protective custody of the upper chamber on May 13, gunshots were heard inside the building of the legislative body. Hours later, before dawn on May 14, Dela Rosa left the Senate.Tracker teams have been deployed to locate and arrest the senator.On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it revoked Dela Rosa’s firearms licenses.However, Dela Rosa’s camp on Thursday said they will file an appeal with the PNP over its decision to revoke his firearms license, according to his lawyer Atty.
