Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane tabled her department's budget vote for the 2026/27 financial year in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane on Wednesday said her department was comforted by the significant strides made in some of its programmes, despite several challenges encountered in the last financial year.

Tabling the 2026/27 budget vote in the National Assembly, Simelane said the department has achieved 48% of Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) targets in the delivery of title deeds, eradicating 8,176 mud houses and unblocking 85 stalled housing projects.

“While progress is being made in changing the lives of the people through the delivery of sustainable human settlements, we remain deeply concerned about the pace of housing delivery.”

She noted that the department only managed to deliver 23,027 units out of the target of 37,779 units in 2025/26.
