OTTAWA—Prime Minister Mark Carney is in for the “political fight of his life” if his Liberal government imperils the right to strike, NDP Leader Avi Lewis warned Wednesday.

“We saw last late summer and early fall that Canadians were outraged that some of the airline workers behind me were being forced to work hour after hour, unpaid, in completely and grossly unfair labour arrangements, and they said unpaid work won’t fly. And we saw the president of (the Canadian Union of Public Employees), the largest union in the country, tear up a right to work order on live television,” Lewis told reporters on Parliament Hill, where he was joined by labour leaders and NDP MPs.
