Mohammad Tarighat Esfanjani, a defense attorney and member of the East Azerbaijan Bar Association, has been sentenced to three years of discretionary imprisonment by the Osku County Revolutionary Court.

According to a report by the HRANA news agency, based on a verdict recently issued by the Osku Revolutionary Court and served to Mohammad Tarighat Esfanjani, he was sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and two years of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “insulting the leader and the founder of the Islamic Republic.”

According to the report, posts published on Mr. Tarighat Esfanjani’s Instagram page were cited as the primary basis for the charges brought against him.

Mohammad Tarighat Esfanjani is a defense attorney and a member of the East Azerbaijan Province Bar Association. According to human rights sources, he was assaulted and beaten last year by individuals wearing military uniforms. His wife was also threatened during that incident.
