Fresh out of law school and beginning her legal career, the last thing Demi McQuarrie expected was to be diagnosed with breast cancer at just 27.
The Christchurch woman found a lump on her breast and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2024.
“I didn’t think too much of it because of my age but then decided to get checked for peace of mind,” she said.
The diagnosis is rare in women her age, with Breast Cancer Foundation National Register data showing fewer than 20 New Zealand women aged 25 to 29 are diagnosed each year.
