A tense situation prevailed in Thrissur on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) following a protest march taken out by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] against the raids by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on the residences of Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan in the CMRL-Exalogic case after a section of demonstrators tore down flex boards of the United Democratic Front. The march, led by senior CPI(M) leaders, witnessed moments of friction when activists allegedly ripped apart flex boards put up by the UDF congratulating the newly sworn-in Cabinet. The police intervened to stop the vandalism, leading to minor scuffles.Hundreds of CPI(M) workers participated in the protest, which began from the CPI(M) office and passed through Naduvilal, before entering the busy Swaraj Round, effectively blocking traffic for a considerable period. Vehicles were forced to halt, with motorists honking for passage before the police diverted them. The protest was led by CPI(M) district secretary K.V. Abdul Khader, A.C. Moideen, MLA, K. Radhakrishnan, MP, former Minister R. Bindu, and Xavier Chittilappilly, MLA.'Political collusion’Addressing the gathering near the Corporation office, leaders launched sharp attacks on the Congress and the BJP, alleging political collusion behind the ED action.Mr. Khader claimed the raid had “exposed who struck the deal,” adding: “this is a reflection of the Congress-BJP understanding at the Centre. Details of meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan should be made public.”Ms. Bindu accused the Centre of weaponising agencies, saying: “the ED has been reduced to a tool of pressure. The Modi-VD-ED nexus has now come out in the open.” Mr. Radhakrishnan termed the raid a “political conspiracy,” asserting that “forces that want the Left erased are behind this. The CPI(M) may lose elections, but it will not retreat from struggles.”Mr. Moideen echoed the charge, calling the ED raid “politically motivated and agenda-driven,” and alleged that “attempts to weaken Left politics in Kerala are being executed through coordinated moves.”CPI(M) leaders also declared that they would intensify protests against, what they described as, Sangh Parivar-driven agendas and continue mobilising public resistance.
