The Congress has accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leadership of deliberately provoking tensions during a protest march taken out in Thrissur on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan’s residences.District Congress Committee (DCC) president Joseph Tajet alleged that CPI(M) workers tore down Congress flex boards during the demonstration, calling it a calculated attempt to create unrest in the city. He urged the CPI(M) leadership to refrain from such actions and maintain political decorum.'As per court orders'Mr. Tajet said the ED raids, conducted on 12 locations, including the former Chief Minister’s residences, were being carried out under court orders. He termed the CPI(M)’s protest against the Central agency as a challenge to the country’s legal system.Taking a swipe at CPI(M)’s youth wings, Mr. Tajet remarked that members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) “need not expend too much energy now” and suggested that “their time is yet to come.”He further alleged that the CPI(M) and Mr. Vijayan had a history of indirectly supporting and encouraging Central investigative agencies. Referring to past instances where political leaders in the State faced ED probes, Mr. Tajet questioned whether the current reaction stemmed from fear or anxiety. Published - May 27, 2026 07:50 pm IST
