Members of the Navyandhra Teachers’ Association (NTA) have expressed strong reservations over the denial of promotions to teachers as Junior Lecturers, while extending the opportunity to non-teaching staff. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the association’s State president K. Harikrishna and State general secretary M. Srinivasa Rao said it was unfair to overlook teachers who had dedicated nearly three decades to the profession and instead grant promotions as Junior Lecturers to non-teaching employees with no classroom teaching experience.“Individuals who have never even held a piece of chalk are being considered eligible for Junior Lecturer promotions,” they alleged. They said if there were any legal or administrative issues preventing the promotion of teachers as Junior Lecturers, it was the government’s responsibility to resolve them and ensure justice for teachers. They alleged that successive governments had neglected the issue, resulting in teachers being denied a fair deal for nearly two decades. They demanded that the ongoing process of granting Junior Lecturer promotions to non-teaching employees be stopped immediately and that the promotions already made be cancelled.
