The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) hailed the Supreme Court verdict on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, describing it as a defeat of the Congress and its allies on “constitutional” grounds. At a press conference, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said: “All attempts to accuse and defame every institution of democracy in order to hide their own inactivity and political incompetence have today been proven futile and ineffective on the floor of the Supreme Court”.He said the Opposition, particularly the Congress, had suffered a defeat, politically, morally, and constitutionally, in view of the “crushing” electoral losses in Bihar and West Bengal in the recent Assembly elections; failed in attempt to instigate “anarchy and disorder”.Claiming that the Congress had been losing elections because its leadership would be absent from the ground, he said the party lacked a strong grassroots organisational structure. The BJP, on the other hand, constantly nurtured and energised its cadre networks through meetings at various levels, said Mr. Trivedi.“Even during elections, they do not work seriously. Then they go outside, make absurd statements, and think they will win elections,” he said.Mr. Trivedi alleged: “The issue is not just that their allegations on SIR have been proven baseless. The matter is far more serious...their agreements are linked to China. Their ideology is linked to Europe. Their propaganda is linked to America. Their family ties are linked to Italy, and their voter connections are linked to Bangladesh.”He said that after the SIR decision, the Congress and Leader of the Opposition (Lok Sabha) Rahul Gandhi “should introspect and stop using abusive language”.
