Training sessions for the first phase of population census to be started in August this year have been completed in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi district, wherein the ‘charge officers’ were trained.As the first phase of the 16th population census in Tamil Nadu will start on August 1 this year, the district-level training for the senior officials, who will be ‘charge officers’, was conducted recently. The ‘charge officers’ trained by a team of experts from Directorate of Census will train the enumerators in the next stage.The enumerators going to the field for the census will be trained in using the specially designed apps for the census and uploading the details. A team of officials from Directorate of Population Census trained the ‘charge officers’ on uploading the census details using the app.Information pertaining to the nature of house, area of the houses, details about head of the families, number of family members, their educational qualification, occupation, salary or income, drinking water connection, toilet facility, drainage facility, property details, radio, television, car, bikes, desktop computer / laptops, food habit etc. will be collected by the enumerators during the census.“Since this is the first-ever digital census after India’s independence, the public should furnish the correct information during this exercise,” Dr. Sukumar said while participating in the training session of the ‘charge officers’.In Tenkasi, District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore chaired the training session where tahsildars, block development officers, municipality commissioners and executive officers of town panchayats were trained in enumeration of houses in the first phase.“The ‘charge officers’, who were trained in this session by the master trainers from Chennai, will train the enumerators in the subsequent sessions to follow,” said Mr. Kamal Kishore.
