Census 2027 preparatory work is under way in Coimbatore, with field enumeration scheduled from August 1 to 30. Each enumerator will cover up to 800 houses.According to officials, three statistical officers who attended the master training programme conducted by the Directorate of Census earlier this month have begun training charge officers and will later train enumerators after finalisation.The finalisation of enumerators and supervisors is expected within a week, following Enumeration Block mapping and demarcation of supervisory circles.The District Collector serves as the Principal Census Officer. At the corporation level, the Corporation Commissioner functions as the charge officer. Ten tahsildars, seven municipal commissioners, 33 town panchayat executive officers and block-level rural development officials function as charge officers overseeing operations across rural and urban areas.Around 520 officials, including Village Administrative Officers, revenue inspectors and municipal sanitary inspectors, will take part in fieldwork.Data collection will cover housing and household details such as house type, area, household composition, education, occupation, income, water supply, sanitation, drainage, property details and ownership of assets including vehicles and household items.Geotagging technology will be used for accurate location mapping during field operations.
