Two schoolchildren were apprehended in Cape Town’s CBD after allegedly stealing items from a Mr Price store and leading security officers on a chase through the city centre on Monday, 25 May, after school.

The incident unfolded between Longmarket and Church streets, where witnesses said the children, both dressed in school uniform, ran through crowded pedestrian areas before being stopped.

Clint Africa, a valet parking assistant who witnessed the incident, said he became involved after noticing one of the children being pursued through the street.

“I witnessed a youngster, a minor, in school clothes, running while people were shouting behind him,” Africa said.
