The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a social media report claiming the recent killing of former Provost Marshal, Major General Hassan Ahmed, and the abduction of his wife near Abuja.

The Army said the report being circulated online was a recycled account of an incident that occurred in 2021 and described its renewed circulation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create panic.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Army said the late senior officer was attacked on July 15, 2021, along the Abuja–Lokoja Road.

It added that security agencies investigated the incident at the time, leading to the arrest of the assailants and subsequent legal action.
