The Army said portraying Gololo as a retired General was capable of misleading the public and creating false impressions about the institution.

The Nigerian Army has distanced itself from Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, declaring that he is neither a serving nor retired officer of the army and has never worked with it in any capacity.

The Army made the clarification on Tuesday following reports which described Gololo as a retired Major General who was arrested at Grand Square Supermarket in Abuja after criticising Senate President Godswill Akpabio over comments linked to the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement, the Nigerian Army faulted reports identifying Gololo as a retired Army General, insisting that the claim was false and misleading.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Army (NA) has observed with concern a publication by Sahara Reporters titled: ‘Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments,’ wherein one Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, was described as a ‘Retired Nigerian Army General.
