The Student Council of Sharif University of Technology reported that nearly 30 students from the university have been summoned to the disciplinary committee over the past month. According to the report, at least six students have received initial rulings of “expulsion” and, in most cases, a “five-year ban from studying at any university.” Several other students have been handed suspension sentences for one or more semesters.
Based on the report, some students were summoned to the disciplinary committee on charges such as “planning to incite unrest at the university.” A significant number of cases were also built around students’ online activities, including content posted on personal pages, messages in private groups, or the republication of material on social networks. According to the Student Council, the monitoring of students’ online activity has once again intensified, while cases related to last year’s protests are being pursued with greater severity.
The Sharif University Student Council also pointed to violations in the review process. In one case, the academic status of a graduate who had gone to collect their degree was changed from “graduated” to “undetermined” after they were summoned to the disciplinary committee, apparently to clear the way for a disciplinary ruling against them.
