EU negotiators are dismayed at 'incoherent' British proposals that were rejected in the past as dead ends and 'magical thinking'
Europeans are baffled by the sudden emergence of British calls to rejoin the EU, and most capitals are uninterested in pursuing negotiations, according to senior diplomats and officials in Brussels and London.
Despite a debate at the top of the UK’s ruling Labour party about seeking to rejoin the bloc, and proposals from London to create a single market in goods with the EU, there is no appetite on the European side to step up talks.
Few EU capitals are paying close attention to the developments. and no countries beyond France, Ireland, or the Netherlands are actively interested in radically reviewing the current post-Brexit trade agreement with Britain, which is seen as stable and working well.
