We often talk about South African resilience as if it’s a superpower. We wear it like a badge of honour, surviving everything from economic strain and high crime rates to the daily anxieties of modern life.
But if we are honest with ourselves, a lot of what we call resilience isn't actually healthy coping; it is just endurance under pressure.
We keep moving outward while carrying a heavy load of chronic stress, anxiety, and impending burnout on the inside.
