Seoul mayoral candidates from the ruling and main opposition parties suspended their election campaigns Tuesday after an overpass in western Seoul partially collapsed, injuring at least six people.

Chong Won-o, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK)'s candidate for Seoul mayor, and Incumbent Mayor Oh Se-hoon of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) both announced on their Facebook accounts that they were temporarily suspending their campaigns.

"The top priority for now is swiftly rescuing the people and dealing with the accident," Chong wrote, urging authorities to do their utmost to prevent further damage.

Chong's camp officials told reporters he will immediately visit the site of the accident.
