adsA major upset unfolded in Kano politics on Sunday as Muhammad Bello Dalhatu defeated Muhammad Sani Abacha, eldest son of former Head of State, Sani Abacha, to emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the next Kano governorship election.
Dalhatu secured a landslide victory in the PDP governorship primary, polling 2,233 votes against Abacha’s 749 votes, according to the results announced by the Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Danjani Hadejia.
Declaring the outcome of the exercise, Hadejia said the primary election was conducted peacefully, transparently and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
He noted that the exercise proceeded without major incidents, praising delegates and party stakeholders for their orderly conduct throughout the voting process.
“Alhaji Muhammad Sani Abacha scored 749 votes, while Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu polled 2,233 votes,” Hadejia announced.
