The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the promotion of no fewer than 17,951 junior police officers across various commands and formations of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotion exercise, contained in an internal wireless signal dated May 20, 2026 and obtained by SaharaReporters, showed that 164 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspectors, while 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants.

The signal further revealed that 17,714 Constables were promoted to the rank of Corporal with effect from May 13, 2026.

According to the document, the promotions affected officers serving in formations including the IGP Monitoring Unit, STFPIB, TIU, SIU, Force Education Officer, POSSAP and the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“The Inspector-General of Police has graciously approved the promotion of the following Sergeants, Corporals and Constables from various Commands/Formations with effect from 13/05/2026 as indicated against their names,” the wireless message stated.
