No fewer than 500 students of Community Secondary School, Gegu-Beki, in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State, are reportedly at risk of kidnapping, exposure to harsh weather, and potential building collapse as they continue to learn in dilapidated mud classrooms constructed more than four decades ago.
SaharaReporters learnt that this was disclosed in a report released on Monday, May 25, 2026, by civic technology organisation TrackaNG, which accused Kogi State authorities of neglecting the school despite repeated appeals from the host community.
According to the report, the school buildings were originally erected by community members in 1980 and have remained without meaningful renovation or rehabilitation for 46 years.
“For over 40 years, students of Community Secondary School, Gegu-Beki in Kogi Local Government Area, Kogi State, have continued to learn under the same mud structures built by the community in 1980 without any meaningful renovation or rehabilitation,” the report stated.
