Residents of Agbaugama in Ezzagu/Ohofia Ward of Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have accused the state government of abandoning Igwebuike Primary School after a major section of the facility was vandalised more than a year ago, forcing pupils to learn in unsafe and severely dilapidated classrooms.
The community also lamented the absence of a motorable access road, an acute shortage of teachers and what they described as years of official neglect despite repeated appeals to the Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) and other government authorities to rehabilitate the school.
A recent visit by SaharaReporters to the school revealed the alarming scale of infrastructural decay. The main classroom block has been left roofless after its roofing sheets and timber framework were completely stripped away. The exposed wooden trusses, now weather-beaten and partly damaged, leave the building vulnerable to further deterioration.
The destruction has rendered the affected classrooms unusable, exposing pupils and school property to rain, scorching sunlight and other harsh weather conditions.
Window and door frames have been ripped out, leaving large openings in the walls, while the faded cream-and-blue paint continues to peel away as the structure deteriorates.
