The Union of Greek Shipowners hosted a luncheon in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at the Museum of Cycladic Art, during her visit to Greece, where she is accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.”The luncheon was hosted by the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlos, together with members of the UGS Board of Directors, representing Greek shipping — the world’s leading maritime force, which has maintained longstanding and close ties with the United Kingdom over time. The presence of Princess Anne further underscores the international standing of Greek shipping, as well as the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation between Greece and the United Kingdom, two great maritime nations sharing a common seafaring heritage, respect for freedom of navigation, and an enduring commitment to the people of the sea.During the luncheon, Travlos, welcoming HRH Princess Anne, noted among other things:“For generations, our peoples have sailed the same seas… expressing profound respect for those who dedicate their lives to the sea.”The President of the Union also referred to Princess Anne’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian initiatives supporting those who serve at sea, expressing the deep respect of the Greek shipping community for her work and contribution.Travlos further highlighted the social dimension of Greek shipping, stating:“The strength of Greek shipping is also measured by its contribution to society… to our homeland. Through our collective philanthropic work, we stand effectively by our fellow citizens in times of need, while continuing to support the younger generation and contribute to shaping a better, more humane future.”
