Iran has agreed in principle to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the United States lifting its naval blockade and resolving issues surrounding Tehran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, according to Reuters, citing a senior US administration official.

The official said Washington understands that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has endorsed the general framework of the proposed agreement.

Under the reported plan, the strait would reopen first, followed by the lifting of the US naval blockade.

The official added that negotiations over nuclear-related measures are expected to take longer, with discussions focused on how Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile would be removed or handled, rather than whether Tehran is willing to relinquish it.
