The Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS Delta) has distributed palliatives and empowerment packages to more than 300 widows drawn from military, paramilitary and civilian communities in the Niger Delta region as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy at 70.
The widows’ outreach programme, which took place in Warri on Saturday, was preceded by a Jummat service at the NNS Delta mosque in Warri, Delta State.
The event featured the presentation of food items, consumables and textile materials, including wrappers and household supplies such as bags of rice, garri and vegetable oil, to beneficiaries, alongside speeches and counselling sessions.
The widows, in emotional reactions, expressed appreciation to the Navy for remembering them at a time many said they had been neglected by society following the loss of their husbands.
Speaking at the event, the Commander, NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, noted that the “outreach programme aims at supporting widows of deceased military officers, security personnel and vulnerable civilians identified through community nominations across the state.”
