The Navy authorities noted that preliminary investigations showed that the accident occurred as a result of adverse weather conditions and rough waves generated by a heavy rainstorm.
The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday announced it has rescued three passengers from a capsized boat along the Bennett River in Warri, Delta State, averting what could have resulted in fatalities.
The rescue operation according to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA during a routine maritime security patrol on the waterway.
The Navy said its personnel spotted distressed passengers and floating debris from the overturned boat while conducting patrol operations in the area and immediately launched a search and rescue mission.
The victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to the NNS DELTA Sick Bay, where they received medical attention before being discharged after their conditions were stabilised.
