Her dad, Jorge José Francisco Constanzo Chávez, had been asleep in a separate room alongside his partner after consuming substantial amounts of alcohol the previous evening and again that day.Reports indicate he had been out celebrating on Saturday night, returning home at about 6am on Sunday morning (May 18). He subsequently collected his daughter from his former partner's residence for his scheduled 10am to 6pm access, though he turned up almost an hour behind schedule.READ MORE: Woman found dead in Merseyside home as man arrested on suspicion of murderREAD MORE: Woman, 19, hit by tram in Edinburgh and seriously injured as major road closedJorge then shared lunch with his girlfriend and daughter, during which he is said to have consumed more alcohol. After arriving back at his apartment in Santiago, the Chilean capital, the pair reportedly fell into a heavy slumber, leaving little Isidora unsupervised. The toddler fell from an unprotected bedroom window which had been left ajar, according to local reports. A resident heard a "particular impact" at about 5.10pm and spotted the child lying motionless in the car park beneath.Article continues belowParamedics responded swiftly, however Isidora was confirmed dead at the location at 5.23pm, having sustained fatal injuries from the fall.Authorities faced challenges determining which flat the child had fallen from, as she wasn't a resident of the building. They were forced to conduct a comprehensive floor-by-floor sweep of the entire block to pinpoint the source. They finally roused the father, who appeared visibly drunk, approximately 40 minutes following the tragedy. Prosecutors have brought charges of homicide by omission against him, alleging severe negligence. The window was missing essential safety features that had purportedly been arranged with the mother, and the father neglected to make it secure despite being aware of the dangers. The custody arrangement explicitly required the father to fit a safety net, a condition he accepted during family court mediation proceedings. Prosecutor Pamela Valdés informed the court the dangers were "avoidable" and that the father "should have left the window closed with the latch".She highlighted that the window's design meant it would have been impossible for the toddler to open it on her own. The father was originally held for identification alongside his partner before his formal arrest.Following a court appearance, he was placed in preventive custody. Isidora's mother, Gloria Ortiz, has expressed her heartbreak over the tragedy, saying no parent should ever have to lay their child to rest.Article continues belowPolice have confirmed they will examine the level of alcohol consumed during the party which allegedly started on Saturday evening and carried on into Sunday.
