Highlighting the shortage of anaesthesiologists in the country, the director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, B. Dinesh, on Sunday, said the institute is moving to appoint eight more anaesthesia specialists to strengthen cardiac care services.Speaking after inaugurating a continuing medical education (CME) programme on cardiac anaesthesia organised at the Mysuru unit of Jayadeva Hospital by the Karnataka Chapter of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Anaesthesiologists in association with the Global Heart Care Foundation, he said anaesthesia specialists play a vital role in cardiac surgeries.Dr. Dinesh said anaesthesiologists work closely with surgeons, nurses, and operating theatre technicians during procedures and remain involved throughout surgeries and recovery, ensuring patient safety and treatment outcomes.He said advancements in technology, including the use of AI, could further improve patient care and clinical outcomes.Pointing to the shortage of specialists, he said Jayadeva Hospital currently has 38 DM anaesthesia specialists, and plans are under way to recruit eight more doctors.He stressed the need for regular academic programmes and assured support from Jayadeva Hospital for such initiatives.Ranjith Karthikeyan, Muralidhar, Manjunath, Parimala, Prabhakar, Manjula, organising secretary K.S.
