Image from DOST-PHIVOLCS A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur on Sunday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.The earthquake struck at 9:19 p.m. of May 24 at 09.23°N, 126.66°E, or 50 km N 55° E of Bayabas and was initially recorded as a magnitude 5.3 earthquake.It was later downgraded as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake as of 9:54 p.m.The tremor was tectonic in origin and was 10 kilometers in depth.Intensity III was felt in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur while Intensity I was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.State seismologists said no damage was expected from the earthquake but cautioned against possible aftershocks. — JMA, GMA News
