Monday is expected to break the record again - and could even be the hottest day in May ever.With similar highs to follow on Tuesday, the Met Office says temperatures should peak at 30C in southern areas on Wednesday and 28C on Thursday. Morning temperatures could even plunge to 0C in parts of Scotland.Minimum possible temperature readings show eastern, central and southern England, as well as South Wales, might be the only places with readings in the double digits at 6am.Temperature anomaly maps for the start of June show areas of deep blue right across the UK. This indicates where temperatures are expected to drop well below the average for this time of year.Met Office forecasts record-breaking heatwaveIn the meantime, the Met Office’s 35C predictions for Monday and Tuesday would constitute a new record for all-time temperatures in May. The current record stands at 32.8C.Temperatures rose above 28C on Friday and are expected to do so every day until at least Thursday. That means we could see a week-long heatwave.Article continues belowAn official heatwave is declared when temperatures rise above the heatwave threshold for three consecutive days. The threshold varies between 25C and 28C across different UK counties.The Met Office forecast for Monday states: "Cloudy in northwest Scotland with rain at times, otherwise most places seeing lots of sunshine. It remains hot, especially in the south but cooler along the coasts."It adds for Tuesday to Thursday: "Staying hot, sunny and mostly dry over the next few days with temperatures well above average.
