Intelligence-led operation leads to arrest of cash-in-transit robbery suspects in Welkom.
Two wanted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery suspects have been arrested, and stolen money recovered following a cross-pavement robbery at a business in Welkom in the Free State.
According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the incident occurred at Cash and Carry on Saturday, at around 12.40 pm, when security officers were collecting money from the store.
Covane said six-armed suspects allegedly overpowered the security guards during the robbery.
"The security guards were allegedly accosted by six-armed suspects who forced them to lie down before ordering them to open the cash van," he said.
