A 27-year-old man accused of house robbery was arrested on a bus travelling from Limpopo to Gauteng while allegedly attempting to flee the province with suspected stolen copper in his possession, after police intercepted the vehicle along the N1 South in a coordinated operation.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said members of the Provincial Flying Squad and Banderlierkop SAPS acted on intelligence during routine patrols on Monday, 25 May, that the suspect was trying to flee the province, and quickly moved in to intercept the bus before it left Limpopo.

“The suspect, who was allegedly attempting to flee the province, was positively identified on the bus, found in possession of suspected stolen property (copper), and immediately arrested.”

The suspect is also linked to a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). Ledwaba said he was tracked down and apprehended after officers stopped the bus and confirmed his identity among passengers heading towards Gauteng.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the rapid coordination between units involved in the operation.
