TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — At least 31,782 corn farmers in the province whose farms were plagued by the dry spell were given P321.8 million assistance or P10,125 each on Friday, May 22.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) organized the farmers — who come from 22 towns and this capital city — into five clusters for purposes of payout.
Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, who personally visited and supervised the sites, told reporters that he was instructed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to speed up the financial help to the drought-affected corn farmers.
