TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — An elderly man died while queuing for the emergency cash transfer (ECT) payout for drought-ravaged corn farmers at the provincial capitol gymnasium here on Friday morning, May 22.

The victim, Wilson Corpuz, 65, of Barangay Anquiray, Amulung town, was among the 31,782 farmers listed in five cluster areas to benefit from the P10,125 aid from the government. He was among the 2,199 listed for the payout at the gymnasium.

According to witnesses, Corpuz was in a long line for his aid when he suddenly fell and lost consciousness. He was immediately helped by bystanders and rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) but was declared dead on arrival.
