The new cycle of audits by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is bringing strict deadlines, with thousands of citizens facing the risk of additional taxes and the loss of significant deductions. The tax administration is now conducting intensive cross-checks of data in income tax returns, calling on those who show discrepancies or unclear data to immediately prove the accuracy of what they declared.

Taxpayers who receive a notice from the tax office will have to submit the necessary supporting documents for specific codes of their declaration within 15 days. Otherwise, AADE will proceed to correct the data, imposing additional taxes, deleting tax exemptions and adding administrative fines.

The tax office may request the submission of supporting documents related to: Tax reduction expenses (medical visits, tuition fees, life insurance premiums, donations); income: abroad, guests, real estate purchase contracts, lease agreements, registration licenses or purchase invoices for cars, boats and swimming pools, tax residence (for residents abroad); and proof of country change: documents certifying that the person lives abroad (like an employment contract, utility bill, tax return from another country).
